Superman

A simple bodyweight exercise that trains your back while developing control, posture, and body awareness.

Difficulty Beginner
Reps 8–15
Equipment None

🎯 How To Perform

The Superman is performed by lying face down and gently lifting your arms and legs away from the floor. The goal is not to lift as high as possible. Instead, focus on creating a controlled contraction through your back and maintaining a stable, comfortable position.

Step-by-Step

1

Get Into Position

Lie face down on a comfortable surface. Extend your arms in front of you and straighten your legs behind you.

2

Brace Your Body

Keep your head in a neutral position and gently tighten your core. Avoid aggressively lifting or turning your neck.

3

Lift Slowly

Slowly raise your arms and legs a comfortable distance from the floor. Keep the movement smooth and controlled.

4

Pause

Hold the raised position briefly while keeping your body controlled.

5

Lower With Control

Slowly return your arms and legs toward the floor. Avoid dropping them quickly.

💪 Muscles Worked

The Superman primarily focuses on the muscles along your back while also requiring your core and posterior chain to help stabilize your body.

⭐ Form Tip

Controlled is better than rushed. You do not need to throw your arms and legs upward or hold the highest position for a long time. A slow, controlled repetition with good positioning is more valuable than quickly completing a large number of repetitions.

💪 Strength & Progress

Start with around 8–15 controlled repetitions.

As you become comfortable with the movement, gradually increase your repetitions or make each repetition slower and more controlled.

You can also introduce a short pause at the top of each repetition while maintaining good form.

⚠️ Safety First

Perform the exercise on a comfortable, stable surface.

Keep your neck relaxed and avoid forcing your arms or legs higher than is comfortable.

If you experience sharp, sudden, or unusual pain, stop the exercise.
